EP 24: The Falcons of Jediane, Sudan

Sudan’s Return to the African Stage

For the first time since 2012, the Sudanese National Football Team has booked their place at the African Cup of Nations, finishing second in their group behind Angola. This young squad is heading to Rabat, Morocco for AFCON 2025 determined to make a statement — and their journey is nothing short of inspiring.
Sudan has endured civil war for much of the past decade, yet the players fought through unimaginable challenges to earn their spot. Their discipline, resilience, and fighting spirit are a testament not just to their talent, but to the determination of an entire nation.

This is not the first time Sudan has made football history. They were the inaugural hosts of the African Cup of Nations in 1957 and lifted the trophy as champions in 1970. Today, they aim to write a new chapter.
Located in Eastern Africa, Sudan is home to nearly 50 million people. Its capital, Khartoum, is a bustling city where hospitality, rich traditions, and cultural pride run deep. Sadly, years of conflict — particularly in the Darfur region — have overshadowed its beauty. The fighting between the military and local militia has left scars on the land and its people, with children growing up hearing stories of a peaceful Sudan that once was.
Yet even through division and hardship, Sudan remains a place of history, heritage, and community. It is home to millions who still dream, still fight, and still believe.
